whO's oN yOuR tEaM?

As you embark out into the unknown on the
Journey of your Dreams,
choose wisely your traveling mates.
Your team and who you surround yourself with
is one of the most important decisions you can make
and a great influence on whether you will
complete the journey successfully.”
- Mastin Kipp
Wow!

I can't believe it! I finally made it--

Today I must proudly admit that I, Dana Lynne Curry, have officially become a soccer mom, and I don't even drive a minivan! My son, Max, joined the school soccer team for the very first time this year, which is so cool, and brave, and a bit scary . . . !

I was thrilled to be watching him at his first game on Saturday. It was an amazingly beautiful, sunny & cool morning, and as I stood on the sidelines watching Max hang with his friends & get out on the field and play his hardest, I thought about the importance of being a part of a team.

Most of us are on teams--and not only sports teams, but also at work, in our families, in clubs, and lots of others! . . . some teams are a choice and others are more by default. My mom used to say, "You are the company you keep." In other words, who we surround ourselves with has a super huge influence over us.

What does this all mean? It means we need to choose our people wisely. Mastin, on of my mentors from The Daily Love, has told me that I need to surround myself with people who have what I want.
  • Because I value peaceI commit to my own inner peace and surround myself with peaceful people
  • Because I value love, I commit to being loving and surround myself with loving people
  • Because I value growth, I commit to my own growth and surround myself with people who are also on a path of growth
  • Because I value trustI commit to trusting myself and surround myself with people I trust
  • Because I value gratitudeI commit to my own practices of gratitude and surround myself with grateful people
  • Because I value healthI commit to my own health and surround myself with healthy people
Who's on your team? Do you surround yourself with people who reflect what is important and dear to you? Or, do you maybe need to break up with some people who don't support the Journey of Your Dreams?

Hope you have a beautiful day!
Much love,
Dana

Dear You funfreePeeps!

When we are our truest selves, even if we are yucky and vulnerable, or if we shine our brightest light,...we draw people into our lives depending on how we feel about ourselves. So, we need to take very good care of us.

*mean people in your life? we're mean to ourselves.
*happy amazing friends? that's what we are.
*scooby-doo-liscious dancing-2-the-beat-guardians of love?

I know 4 me, when I am in the scooby-do place, I can love my friends the best. It depends on me. I can choose to be amazingly happy!
YEah. and oH yeAh.
hallelujiah! (spellcheck!)
love ya!

LoVe Ur LiFe!

deAr funfreeMepeeps!

This amazing reminder landed in my mailbox this morning from one of my new favorite tweeters, notsalmon.com---check her out! She's so super groovy & inspirational!

Her post reminds me how important it is to take beautiful care of me and to keep all the promises I make to myself.

So, here are some promises I would like to keep to ME!

  1. Be present when I am with my children.
  2. Hug my kids and tell them how much I love them.
  3. Get enough sleep.
  4. Be a good teacher!
  5. Hug my students and tell them how much I love them (WARNING!--POLITICALLY INCORRECT...oh well...)
This is kind of random, but I also promise myself that I will put lotion on my skin every day, look into the sun and counting my blessings, and thank God for my beautiful (and imperfect) life!

I am learning from everything!
Love you so much!

Dear Fun & Free Peeps!

Can you believe this picture?
Can you understand that you were born a MirAcLe . . . and on PurPoSe?

There is no One like y0u on the planet or in the UniVerse, so why can't you let your amazing light shine? You are an amazing and miraculous being?!

My daughter has diabetes and she is a miracle (I had three miscarriages between Max and Choe . . . miracle? AbSoLuTeLy!). And she loves math and plays guitar (and is super funny!).

My son has asthma and he is also a miracle and he plays bass and clarinet (and he makes me laugh until I pee!).

I am a divorced mom who used to have an eating disorder and I am sometimes sad and stressed out, and I randomly dance and sing (and laugh with my kids and have family Wii bowling!).  Miraculous? YES SIRREE!

I am figuring out that I don't have to work so hard anymore. I just need to be the me that I am, and that is a gift enough for my kids, my partner, my students, and my friends. It's the best I can do . . . ON PURPOSE.

everything is a miracle. . . even the crappy stuff!

My son told me today that I see everything as a smile. . . and he sounded a bit sarcastic. I asked him what he meant and he told me, "Mom, you always look at the positive side of everything." And it's true. I do.

You will have an amazing day! I heart you!

gIvE of yoU(rself)!

Give yourself entirely to those around you.
Be generous with your blessings.
A kind gesture can reach a wound that only
compassion can heal.
 ~Steve Maraboli

DeaAr FuN & FrEe PeePsiEs!

This post is inspired by the Purpose Fairy--another blog I receive every week! Today, she wrote the following:
There are so many things we can all offer to those around us and believe it or not many of these things are free. If you have material things you would like to give away to those who have less than you do, give it, and if you feel like you don’t have any material possession to offer, give them your time, your knowledge, your love and support and many of the things you have that cost you nothing but they value a lot.
JOY OF GIVING
A woman who was traveling alone in the mountains found a precious stone in a stream.
The next day she met another traveler who was hungry, the woman opened her bag to share her food.
The hungry traveler saw the precious stone and asked the woman to give it to him. She did so without hesitation.
The traveler left, rejoicing in his great fortune. He knew the stone was worth enough to give him security for a lifetime.
But a few days later he came back to return the stone to the woman.
“I’ve been thinking,” he said, “I know how valuable the stone is, but I give it back in the hope that you can give me something even more precious. Give me what you have within you that enabled you to give me the stone.”
The woman smiled, “The joy of giving!”

What do you have to give? I personally want to make a commitment to give to every person I encounter . . . that can be as simple as a smile!

What can you give?

Huggies!
Dana
