prACTice (gr)ATTITUDE! . . . it's an attitude . . .

Gratitude is the
single most important ingredient
to living a successful and fulfilled life.
--Jack Canfield, co-creator of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series

I know from experience that when when I focus on and am thankful for the good stuff I already have, I send out amazing positive energy that can bring  MORE of the good stuff BTW . . . it works the same for being negative . . . Have you ever been around a bunch of complainers and jumped in and started whining along with them? And then you can feel your frequency drop like a lead balloon?

ENERGY (positive or negative) GOES VIRAL!

We all know that getting better at something (like being grateFULL) takes prACTice (NOTE: prACTice has the word ACT in it!!).

So how do we do it? I have a couple of ideas for you, but BEWARE: they take ACTion.

oNe iDeA: I personally like to write (duh . . .), so I keep a journal where I list things I am grateful for at the end of the day. That way, I end my day on a positive note, and I actually think I sleep better!

aNothEr IdEa: (pinecone story alert) there was a time in my life when I felt like noTHING was working . . . my job, my family life, my relationships (mostly with myself, aka funfreeMe NOT, but also with other people).

So, I started running (and running ... and running ... and running ... you know what I mean! ... cuz that's what we do, right? ....... we RuN ........... and fast!)

I happened to be running on a golf course one day and looked down and saw a pinecone. For some reason, I picked it up; this is how the Universe gets our attention sometimes. I sat on a bench that overlooked the entire golf course, ready to collapse into a pile of misery.

Then, for some reason, I decided to start counting my blessings. I had the pinecone in my hand, and I pulled off every tine (the hard prickly thingies that stick out on pinecones), and for each one, I thought of something I was grateful for. I sat there for over and hour, and by the time I was done, I felt sOsooooSo much better.

My energy changed from me feeling like crap to feeling, well, BLESSED. On this day I began to count my blessings . . . and this began my love affair with pinecones. More later . . .

Have a beautiful day!

The Universe
Dear FunFreePeeps!

Have you ever felt kind of jealous of someone? Maybe for what they have, or some accomplishment of theirs? Do you ever compare yourself to others and feel like you're not as good, or not enough, or not as lucky, or not as ________(fill in the blank)?

I know I've written about that feeling before . . . and I used to do that to myself, too. Consider this: when we are faced with a friend, a colleague, or even a complete stranger who has
  • a streak of good fortune
  • a surprising success
  • an unforeseen opportunity
  • a job they love
  • wonderful health
  • lost weight
  • an amazing relationship
  • or even stuff like a BRAND NEW CAR or a McMANSION! . . .
the Law of Attraction requires us to be as thrilled - - YES! ThRiLLeD!

for that OTHER person, as if we, ourselves, would be ThRiLLeD had we been the fortunate recipient of __________(fill in the blank).

Even better, we can act as if the __________ has already arrived, and practice gratitude for it, as if we already have __________ and are enjoying the amazing benefits of it!

And we have so much of __________, that we can turn around and share it with others!

What if you BEGAN with the piece "SHARING with others," even thought the ________ hasn't yet arrived? Now THAT would create even more space for more of _________ to arrive in your life . . .

Just sayin' . . . (or does that seem too scary 'cuz you think you'd actually have less . . . that's how our mind plays tricks with us, huh?); it's the opposite . . . we would be opening up space for MORE!

That's how The Law of Attraction works . . .
Give it up!
Happy Friday,
;) Dana

WiShEs aRe yOUr fUtUre PrEPaRiNg YOU 4 gReAtNess!

Dear Fun & Free Peeps!

Yesterday, I shared this amazing poster by Karen Salmonsohn. I have done a lot of reading and studying about manifestation and the LAW OF ATTRACTION (read the book The Secret or watch the movie--it's amazing!), and one thing I struggle with (and have for a long time) is that I'm not always sure what I want--or I don't trust myself enough to know what I want and just end up second-guessing what I think I want--does that even make sense?

A recurring and painful pattern in my life is this: It's easier for me to try and meet other people's needs before my own, so I've struggled with acquiring the skills & practice it takes to get in touch with what I want--that just hasn't been my role--until just recently (meaning in the past 5 years, or so . . .). So part of my journey has been to GET IN TOUCH WITH ME AND WITH WHAT I HOLD AS MY DEEPEST  & MOST PRECIOUS WISHES.

I want my wishes to come true-- and therefore it's my job as a Child of the Universe to leverage my wishes, but first I've had to learn to LISTEN to the whisperings of my heart.

What has helped my find this inner voice is most definitely and directly tied to my spiritual practices, which include:
  • writing (in my journal and sharing my process in this daily bloggety-blog)
  • reading books, blogs, and literature that inspires me
  • healing/energy work
  • meditation
  • yoga
  • processing with loved ones
  • eating properly & exercising
  • treating myself with love and kindness
  • accepting myself as an imperfect human (which is perfect)
  • speaking my feelings and my truth respectfully and firmly (or, just barfing them out in inappropriate ways and then taking corrective measures after ;0)
  • intentionally being present, in the moment
  • saying "I'm sorry" when I make a mEsS with my words or actions
Now, really, this list is pretty long, and I certainly am not 100% on any of it--but the point is, I'm intentionally raising my awareness, and I'm trying to evolve. So, as I look at Salmonsohn's "How to make wishes come true," I am going describe what each item means to me right now on my journey:
  1. Feel your dream with all your might. This is about visualization, The Law of Attraction, and gratitude. We can make our wishes come true faster when we appreciate what we already have and act "as if" we already possess what we desire.
  2. List your "To Do's," Write. Write. Write. In order to manifest what we want, it's a great idea to write down what we want in specific, present tense terms. Making a vision board is also am amazing process.
  3. Overwhelmed? Take Smaller bites. Sometimes we go for the big stuff, when continuous, smaller steps might be more palatable.
  4. Frustrated? Focus on all that's right. Once again, gratitude for all we already have is super powerful to call in the even better stuff, relationships, and circumstance!
  5. Impatient? Focus on what's within sight. This practice helps keep us in the present, with our short-term goals right in front of us.
  6. Hustle each day. Appreciate progress each night. Calling in our deepest desires takes daily action--manifestation is not wishing and hoping without taking steps toward what you want. At the end of the day, we can appreciate and feel gratitude for our progress.
How do you make your dreams come true? Leave us a comment and share your ideas!
Lots of Love,
Dana

w(HERE) r U? U r HERE!

Y'aLL(s)--

I have been doing a lot of thinking and reading lately about being present, and today I had kind of an AHA-moment (also known as an EPIHANY in the world of English literature . . . just ask my students about it . . . they are so sick of me bringing this up! . . . but they're really smart!)

Today I was feeling really happy! Yay! And I felt so so so so so so good. And, because I was so happy,  I was friendly, and smiling, and chatty (and I assumed I am smart and capable, and everybody likes me, and oh!-- I am cute! JK! not).

And my AHA moment was when I realized TIME-BENDING.

I was so present, that my past and future dropped off. SO AWESOME!

For those of us who have spent much of our time in REGRET (pain around our past) and WORRY (pain around the future), TIME SEEMS FOREVER DAUNTING.
  • we relive past pain
  • we lose sleep
  • we are up in our heads
  • we feel fuzzy
  • we are out of touch
  • we make up stories in our heads and believe them
  • we are not paying attention
  • we are scared and nervous
  • we are sad
  • we keep re-wounding ourselves
  • we continually beat on ourselves

I noticed today that when I give the players around me my full attention, LIFE comes ALIVE; I am not breathing, but life breathes me. And I am able to be in the moment, present with that which simply IS, holy in front of Me.
I AM (fully) HERE.

In my life, I have spent a lot of time and energy wishing:
  • I was with someone else
  • I was smarter, cuter BLAH BLAH BLAH
  • my body was different
  • I had more _____
  • my past was different
  • ANYTHING was different
  • EVERY FREAKIN' thing was different
When my vibration is negative, I call in experiences, people, and events that mirror this vibration.

It's a HELL of a lot of "NO!"

When I celebrate and feel gratitude for all that is before me (even the total CRAP-aliscious CRAP), I bring in goodness and light. I celebrate the NOW.

It's a HEAVENLY "YES! ( & thank you ) . . ."

This, my superfriend, is an amazing shift.

Note to self: the woman who changed my oil today told me she missed me already as I was driving away; I yelled, "I Love You!" as I drove out.
WHO KNEW! ?
AWESOME-SAUCE!

Where is your vibration? How can you command a HEAVENLY "YES"--even to the hard stuff?
Please share in the comments . . . we love you!

Huggy-buggys,
Dana

cHaNgE yOuR vIbRatIoN . . . cHanGe yOur LiFe!

"A belief is only a thought you continue to think.
A belief is nothing more than a chronic pattern of thought,
and you have the ability --
if you try even a little bit--
to begin a new pattern, to tell a new story,
to achieve a different vibration,
to change your point of attraction."

--Esther Hicks

Yesterday I was listening to a CD from Esther Hicks called "Ask & it Will be Given." It is about energy and The Law of Attraction, which basically holds that whatever we put out into the Universe as a vibrational state comes back to us. I was really grateful to be reminded that we all have a natural state of well-being, and we can choose to either resist or allow that natural state.
It also discussed that we can gauge how connected we are to Source by our emotions; in other words, the better we feel, the more in alignment we are with the Yes!, the I AM. So we can watch with detachment our emotions like a guidance system. We also can listen (with detachment) to our thoughts, which are our vibration--the point of attraction.

So (this is totally mind-boggling), if we want to attract something different in our lives, the place to start is by changing our thoughts! And, if we are having resistant thoughts, we can change them to from resisting to allowing.

Wow. I think I have been seeing this backwards for much of my life.

As Hicks puts it (paraphrased):
We look our whole lives to control our outside surroundings and attach ourselves to what we observe; we think that when we have __________, we will finally feel better.
The reality is that our natural state of well-being is always available to us because we can learn to CHOOSE better feeling thoughts to feel better--before  our negative vibration manifests in the world in the physical form.
These are the processes we must pay attention to consciously if we wish to become intentional, deliberate creators.
We must awaken.
We must shed our unconsciousness.
We must raise our collective vibration.

In Gabrielle Bernstein's newest book May Cause Miracles, guess what she writes about? Energy.

Here are some of her words:

"Your body is a molecular structure that is always vibrating energy. That energy is positive when thoughts are positive, and it is negative when your thoughts are negative. Our energy fields are like magnets; they attract their likeness. Therefore, if your energy is negative . . . guess what? You're attracting negativity into your life. [ . . . ] The miracle-minded approach shows you how to shift your thoughts and energy, thereby attracting positivity into your life."
Bernstein, May Cause Miracles, p. 7

So, whatever energy we put out into the Universe in the form of thoughts comes back to us in the original state--in the same form of energy. Ask yourself:

Can you shift your vibration from negative states to focus more intentionally on service, gratitude, forgiveness, and love?

Can't wait to hear from you!
Lots of love,
Dana

Gratitude is the single most important ingredient to
living a successful and fulfilled life.
--Jack Canfield, writer

Good day funfree Pps!

Since Thanksgiving is a time when many people focus on the idea of gratittude, I though I'd devote the next few days to one of my favorite tOpIcs: beiNg tHank-FULL! It's tOtes tRuE that when we are thankful for the good stuff we already have, we send out amazing positive energy that can bring us MORE good stuff. It's called the Universal Law of Attraction.
ENERGY
(positive or negative)
GOES VIRAL!
It's tOtaLLy contagious!

When we want something to become a habit it takes prACTice
(NOTE: prACTice has the word ACT in it!!).

So how do we do it?
I have a couple of ideas.
BEWARE: they take ACTion.

oNe iDeA: I personally like to write (duh . . .), so I keep a couple of different journals. Here's one I got from one of my besties:

Sometimes, I write things I'm grateful for before I go to bed, and I end my day on a positive note,---I actually think I sleep better! Here's what one of my grATTITUDE journals  looks like . . . note the hearts on the left! . . .
aNothEr IdEa: Sometimes, when my daughter and I say our prayers, we take turns naming things we're grateful for in our lives. This is especially wonderful 'cuz we share together what makes us grateful, and that reminds each of us of MORE good stuff in our lives. Remember:
ENERGY
(in the form of gratitude)
(positive)
GROWS VIRAL!
It's tOtaLLy contagious!
So, Count your blessings, y'all!

It'll make you feel amazing! Have a beautiful day!
Smiles ;)

p.s. check out this awesome message from Marie Forleo about the "downs" of gratitude. It's only a few minutes long, but so worth it!

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find;
knock and the door will be opened to you."
Matthew 7:7

Last week I wrote about how my kids have started helping me with running our home, and it's a great relief for me. And rather than expecting my kids to read my mind and know what to do without my asking, I learned that all I had to do was ask and they are more than happy to help!

I was watching "The Secret" with my best friend a couple of weeks ago--we highly recommend it! It's based on the book by the same name by Rhonda Byrne, and it's all about the law of attraction, which basically holds that whatever you put out into the Universe comes back to you. In other words, whatever state of mind we may find ourselves in, we will see reflected back to us in how we interpret events, relationships, and experiences in our lives.

Makes sense, doesn't it? After all, have you ever noticed that positive folks tend to see things in a positive light, and draw even more positive stuff into their lives? On the other hand, people who live in generally negative states of mind keep drawing the crappy stuff into their lives over and over, so that it becomes a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy that their lives pretty much suck.

This notion of the law of attraction is actually pretty powerful stuff, if you think about it. It means that we can actually determine to a great extent the shape of our lives by how we choose to see. Ask yourself:

Is your cup half-full, or is it half-empty?
Do you live in a paradigm of abundance, or one of lack?
Are you generally positive, or negative?
Do you live a life full of gratitude, or resentment?

Today, I challenge you to intentionally have an uber-positive attitude-- and be grateful and love everything that's right in front of you--even the crappy tough stuff. See what happens! And then--let us know in the comments tomorrow! In the meantime, checkout "The Secret" from Apple TV or NetFlix. It's amazing stuff!

Lots of Love,
Dana

yOu SeE wHat yOu SeE(k) !

Go(o)d day, fantastic funfree-me-tastical magicals!
(made up compliment-word with super energy! maybe a little carried away, however). . .

Do you realize that YOU are responsible for the movies (aka LIFE) you create (someone has to tell you this stuff, right? I hope I was gentle enough about it . . . and there's more go(o)d news!)

Here it is: You can project anything you want on your screen and life will act as a MIRROR:RORRIM and give it right back to you! Case in point, you for sure have noticed that groSs cRapPy energy can be contagious (EeWw...no thanks...), but SO CAN smiling at everyone (they smile back almost 100% of the time, right?) and laughter!

So here's the million dollar question: Why would you choose to give out the crap (and get it back), when you can get the yummy juicy good stuff (and get it back)?

I dare you for one day, even if you think your life sucks, to intentionally be positive and try to shift your frequency to being AMAZINGLY pOSiTiVE and LiGhT!

Here are sOmE ways to do it [review for the big test (JK)]:

  • smile at everyone, and laugh your butt off!
  • don't take everything personally or so seriously--GET OUT OF YOUR DRAMA
  • give people compliments
  • show your gratitude with your words and actions
  • write anonymous love notes
  • do R.A.K. (random acts of kindness) note: you may need credit at first, but it's more fun to do if people don't know it was you!
  • do super awesome random dance moves
  • think amazing loving thoughts about everyone around you (even if you think they are annoying, "popular", ugly, emo, etc...)
  • breathe deeply 100 times (daughter's recommendation)
Got hApPy? It's a choice, yo----I dare you to try it! (leave me a comment and let me know how it goes!)

Love and love squared (like, to the second power for all you math GeEkS)!--

heLp yOUrselF to CaKe . . .noT cRumBs!

Hey All--
I was thinking about how often we settle for crumbs in our friendships when we all deserve the most delicious cake! Sometimes, we keep friends around, even when we are uncomfortable for whatever reason--we give too much, we are constantly criticized or told what to do, or we just can't be ourselves.

Sometimes, we hang on just because we are afraid of being alone.
Someone is better than no one, right? No Way!  Yikes!  RED FLAG!!!!!!

If we are mean to ourselves, and pay close attention to and listen to our inner mean girl, why shouldn't others be mean to us, as well? We draw into our lives people who reflect or mirror how we treat ourselves.
Why don't we have the courage to let go of those relationships?
When I was in middle school, I used to wonder why other girls were so mean to me; I believed the rotten stuff they said about me, and I never stuck up for myself or argued with them. This kept happening over and over again. Hmmmmnnnnnn...that's interesting...
Have you ever noticed that the SAME characters keep showing up in your life (with different faces, of course) and doing the yucky crap u don't appreciate over & over until you learn the lesson you are supposed to learn ?!!!!? Funny how that works!

We teach people how to treat us.
It doesn't matter whether the friends are girls or boys--people treat us the way we allow ourselves to be treated (BTW--it's the same when you are grown up!...)

You know, we actually train (yep, as in dogs! ) the people in our lives how to treat us by what we are willing to put up with, and I believe this is soOoOoo true!

What is the first word we teach a dog?
"NO."
First, we teach a dog what we are NOT willing to put up with; then, we reward the dog when it behaves in a way that is acceptable to us. Hmmnn... lessons from dogs!

Would you keep a dog in your house who constantly barked at you and bit at your fingers or clamped onto the bottom of your pant legs? Or crapped on the floor? Absolutely not!!!! (and if you did, who would be the problem? you? or the dog?...just sayin'...)

So, if you are noticing that you surround yourself with people who aren't very nice to you, ask yourself "Why?"  They are a reflection of how you feel about you! Otherwise, you would not put up with them...you would walk away!
Which reminds me of an amazing poem by Portia Nelson:

Autobiography in Five Short Chapters

Chapter 1
I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I fall in.
I am lost ... I am helpless.
It isn't my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out.

Chapter 2
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don't see it.
I fall in again.
I can't believe I am in the same place.
But it isn't my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.

Chapter 3
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in ... it's a habit.
My eyes are open.
I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.

Chapter 4
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.

Chapter 5
I walk down another street.

~ Portia Nelson ~

Walking down another street can be a really hard, brave thing to do, and sometimes we don't have choices about the people who surround us--like on teams, at work, or in school, or in our families. When that happens, we can just look to others with love and detachment, and be on our way . . . on our own path.

Much love!

Dear FunFreeSeekers--

Happy SpringTime!!

Lots of love,
Dana
